BMRCL awards contract worth Rs. 48.62 crore to extend the Bangalore Metro Purple Line.
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has awarded a Rs. 48.62 crore contract to M Venkata Rao Infra Projects Private Limited to extend the Bangalore Purple Line Metro from the Whitefield metro station.
The key details are:
There will be no new stations in the extension, which will only be 588 meters long.
The goal is to improve train operations by establishing a train reversal crossover-track facility.
The contract also includes the construction of a 28-meter extension of the third line at the Whitefield Depot, which is currently under construction.
BMRCL requested bids for the project in October 2023, with a cost estimate of Rs. 42.30 crore and an 18-month completion deadline.

The line ends 14 meters north of Whitefield station, so trains use only one platform. Once the extension is completed, high-frequency train operations will run smoothly.

BMRCL began operating short-loop train services on the Bangalore Purple Line during morning peak hours on February 26. The move is intended to accommodate the heavy passenger traffic during these hours.

Previously, no toilets were available at any Purple Line stations. Then, in 2013, BMRCL, or Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited, responded to public demand by constructing the first toilets at the Baiyyappanahalli and Indiranagar stations. Whitefield-KR Puram Metro Corridor: The Bangalore Metro Purple Line
The Whitefield-KR Puram metro line (Namma Metro) is part of the Baiyappanahalli to Whitefield Phase 2 line. The BMRCL (Bangalore Metro Rail Company Limited) opened the first phase of the Whitefield-KR Puram line on March 25, 2023. The line shortened the distance between Whitefield and KR Puram to 22 minutes.
The metro line has 12 stations and covers approximately 13 kilometres. The remaining length of the Baiyappanahalli to KR Puram line is scheduled to open in September 2023.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Whitefield-KR Puram metro line on March 25, 2023. The general public’s operations began the following day, March 26, 2023.

According to BMRCL (Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited) sources, the maximum fare along the Whitefield-KR Puram stretch is Rs 35. Initially, this route had seven trains that ran every 10 to 12 minutes.

Baiyappanahalli to KR Puram Metro Corridor: Purple Line Bangalore
The long-awaited two-kilometre Baiyappanahalli to KR Puram metro stretch of the Bangalore metro purple line will open in October 2023.
This stretch completed the Bangalore Purple Line metro route and bridged the gap between the Baiyappanahalli and KR Puram stations. It connects the Whitefield area to Kengeri, Challagatta, and other central and southern Bangalore areas.
The trial runs began in July, and the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is closely monitoring the challenges ahead of the official launch.
These trial runs looked at track alignment, speed, civil interface, and other technical issues. To ensure safety and functionality, a load test was conducted on the Open Web Grinder (OWG) located on the Indian Railways track in Bennaganahalli.
Bangalore’s Namma Metro became the city’s longest and uninterrupted metro line after the Baiyappanahalli to KR Puram and Kengeri to Challaghatta lines were opened.
Bangalore Purple Line Metro (Whitefield to Challaghatta) Timings

The entire Bangalore Metro Timings Purple Line from Whitefield to Challaghatta is operational from 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM, with a frequency of 5-7 minutes.
The frequency of trains varies according to peak and off-peak hours.
Trains will run every 10 minutes between Whitefield (Kadugodi) and Pattanduru Agrahara.
Every five minutes from Pattanduru Agrahara to Mysore Road.
Every three minutes, from Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station – Majestic to MG Road.

Phase 3 of the Bangalore Metro Purple Line: from Malur in Kolar to Bidadi in Ramnagara
The Karnataka government has recently announced plans to extend the Purple Metro Line in Phase 3. The extension will extend in two directions: east to Malur town in Kolar district and west to Bidadi in Ramanagara district. The proposed extension will significantly improve public transportation in these areas. It will help thousands of commuters who travel to and from these areas on a daily basis. On October 13, the Byappanahalli-(Whitefield) section recorded over 7,50,000 riders, 50,000 more than on October 11.
Even the day after the launch, October 10, ridership exceeded 7 lakh.
Given the surge in numbers, BMRCL intends to increase the frequency of the metro along the Purple Line Bangalore metro route. They intend to run trains every three minutes once new trains arrive.
Additional baggage-screening machines have also been installed at the Benniganahalli and Pattandur Agrahara metro stations to ensure a smooth commute.
The Namma Metro network’s busiest station is the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Interchange Station, also known as Majestic Metro Station. It now has 41,803 passengers.
